After accepting our Lord Jesus as our personal Saviour, most of us Christians still struggle in many areas of our lives because we don’t know the Holy Spirit is in us. He is part of the Trinity God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit.
In John 14 vs 15-20, Our Lord Jesus Christ speaks about Him, ‘’And I will ask my Father, he will give you an advocate who will help you and be with you forever, the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him nor know him. But you know him, he lives with you and will be in you.’’ What an amazing truth that we have an advocate and helper who lives in us!
Now let us look at some steps to discover this Helper of ours:
Firstly, we must acknowledge that Holy Spirit is in us living inside of us, just as our Lord Jesus said.
Once we acknowledge Him, it’s time to know more of who He is so that we can start living accordingly. Galations 5 vs 22 gives us the nine attributes of a person living in one accord with the Spirit of God, these include; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness and self-control.
We now must choose to get rid of the obstacles which are the desires of the flesh that will hinder the Holy Spirit from functioning fully in our lives. For example hatred, jealousy, idolatry, witchcraft and sexual immorality. We need to consistently check ourselves against such, asking our Helper to help us overcome and know that He is faithful to do so!
Most importantly, the Word of God instructs us to not grieve the Holy Spirit in Ephesians 4 vs 30 which says, ‘’And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.’’
Sometimes as humans it’s normal to get angry, however we must not let that anger lead us to sin or allow the sun to go down (Ephesians 4 vs 26) without releasing ourselves from the anger otherwise we will grieve the Holy Spirit. When we hold onto un-forgiveness or bitterness this also grieves Him, so we need to be sensitive to His presence in us.
Now that we know that the Holy Spirit lives in us, may our hearts always be available for Him to teach us all things, equipping us in our walk with Christ. Let’s live in peace as we are assured to overcome any circumstance that we face with the help of our forever Helper.
Be Blessed!
